Misadventures of a Fiction Writer

If you are a fiction writer, you know that it isn’t always easy to write. Story ideas don’t always come to you right away, or sometimes you get such a bad case of writer’s block, you just want to bang your head on your keyboard. Sometimes, there are no easy ways out, and other times all you need is a nap:) Staring at a blank page or words on a screen for hours on end is not the way to go about it. Take it from someone who has pulled many an all nighter to do nothing but stare at a computer screen.

First of all, take a step back and take a breath. Torturing yourself over this is not going to help! Take a walk, read a book, or go for coffee! Think about anything BUT writing. After this, you may go back to your writing with a new perspective.

Still don’t know how to continue or even start? Write several different possibilities and then pick the one you like best. It still may not be perfect, but you can always fix it later!

What are some of the ways you get rid of writer’s block? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Keep writing!
